All About Starting And Finishing

The Chevrolet Silverado 250 took off Labor Day weekend at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP). Over 200, 000 spectators started arriving and camping out trackside on Thursday before the weekend. The CTCC series was among the US Nascar Camping World Truck Series, Nascar Pinty’s series, and the Porsche GT3 Cup Canada.

Chris entered the weekend, leading the GT Sport championship in CTCC. The first qualifying on Friday started him in 4th position for round 10. Ashley started in 9th position of the GT Sport category. Chris battled hard with Andrew Danyliw in his Porsche Cayman GT4. Chris was just about to pass him when his car began to lose power on acceleration due to fuel cell issues. Luckily, Chris was able to finish the race and maintain 4th position. Ashley had some battles with a few cars and ended up finishing 6th in GT Sport.

Saturday was a fresh start for the sibling team with a new fuel cell in Chris’ car and new-found confidence in Ashley. Both Sahakians were off to a fast start in round 11. Ashley dropped her lap time by 3 seconds. Chris over took the Porsche and was fighting to stay in 3rd place when his wheel bearing blew, causing the brake disk to shatter as well. There were only 3 laps left of the race and Chris had to retire early. Since he finished more than half the race, he gained 90 points. Ashley continued on and finished in 6th position.

The rain held off for round 12, which was the final race of the weekends. A few cars headed home early, making it a tight field of only 18 cars. Chris was determined to get on the podium and was off to a great start. However, 8 laps into the race, Chris experienced engine failure. After restarting his car a few times, he was able to go out for a couple more laps. By the 10th lap, he had complete loss of power. He tried his best, but couldn’t get the car to finish a single lap more. Ashley finished strong and claimed 4th position.

Due to some bad luck with a great deal of car trouble over the weekend, Chris Sahakian is now second in the Grand Touring Sport Championship with 1204 points. Ashley started and finished all the races, gaining 300 points and holding fourth place in the Grand Touring Sport championship with 806 points.

In other news, Chris and Ashley received their brand new, custom, OMP suits right in time for the CTMP race weekend. They pop with United colors (picture below).

A special mention to Vick Decker, Peter Cohen, the team, and Auto Bugatti for working hard to fix the #7 Mustang and getting it race-ready for CTMP. Your hard work was greatly appreciated.
