Tom Kwok Crowned CTCC 2011 Touring Class Champion

Toronto September 18, 2011 – Tom Kwok #55 was crowned CTCC 2011 Touring Class Champion. He finished the season with 1,584 points edging Alain Lauziere by 75 points. Tom Kwok finished 12 rounds out of 15 on the podium except once in Trois-Rivieres and the last two rounds in ICAR. Going into this last weekend of racing, Tom Kwok had one goal in mind which was to secure the championship on Saturday with a race finish. Completion of the race in any position on Saturday would give him the title regardless of the results on Sunday. Tom's car was at 170 pounds over the original weight of 2500 entering this race.

Saturday, Gary Kwok #66 finished the qualifying session 4th with a time of 1:44.539 and Tom Kwok finished 7th with a time of 1:44.954. Gary Kwok finished the race 2nd just behind Alain Lauziere. Tom Kwok finished 4th despite playing catchup for much of the race. Tom Kwok's strategy at the start of the race was to avoid all contacts and allow all passes into turn 1 and slowly make his way back up the field from behind. The 4th position secured his title and thus allow him to be much more aggressive on Sunday.

Sunday, Gary Kwok #66 was in 2nd position for much of the race and had problems keeping Michel Sallenbach behind him. During Turn 1 of lap 11, Michel Sallenbach made the move and passed Gary. Tom suffered a broken rim on the same lap. Gary finished the race 3rd and Tom because of the broken rim did not finish the race.

"It was fortunate to have the DNF at the very last race after we secure the championships. Had the broken rim happened on Saturday, it might have cost us the title." Team Manager Otto Chiang declared.

"I am very happy to win my first title in CTCC. It was a fantastic season and proved that M&S Racing is a very strong team. We are now the team to beat next season." Tom Kwok #55 suggested.
