Montreal, January 6, 2010.- Today the Lombardi Honda Racing Team, victorious in the 2009 Canadian Touring Car Championship, announced its new line-up of drivers to sport their colours throughout the 2010 season at the helm of their Super Touring Honda Civic Si’s. Champion driver Nick Wittmer will be joined by Ontarian Alex Healy and Quebecker Benjamin Distaulo.
Last year’s Canadian Touring Car Champions, after multiple titles in Honda’s one-make series, The Lombardi Honda Racing Team is not leaving anything to chance with their selection of an experienced and talented driver line-up, as explained by Tony Lombardi, team owner: “I am very happy with our choice of drivers for 2010. They all have the potential to win races and the title” he declares, “We wanted three drivers that would battle during every lap to ensure our colours would triumph and that’s exactly what we have with – in order of car number - Nick, Alex, and Benjamin” he adds.
In his number 1 Civic Si, Montrealer Nick Wittmer intends to do everything possible to maintain his crown : “I’m really looking forward to the start of the season and defending my title this year. I have full confidence that we will once again have very competitive equipment; our Civics are built with stock parts and truly respect the philosophy behind Touring Car racing. Winning races and taking home the championship is my goal” explains Nick.
Another driver with immense talent is Ottawa’s young Alex Healy, who joins the team for the 2010 season. Multi-time karting champion, Alex claimed three podiums in five starts during his Touring Car debut in 2008. Last year he earned ten “Top Ten” finishes in sixteen attempts and was named Rookie of the Year. Alex Healy, 20, is without a doubt one of the most promising Canadian drivers. He does not hide his enthusiasm upon joining the Lombardi Honda Racing Team : “ I am ecstatic to be a part of the Lombardi team, it’s a dream come true. The entire team is fantastic, they gave me a lot of parts and advice last year, even if I was a competitor” explains Alex. He adds : “I am really excited to team up with Ben (Distaulo) and Nick (Wittmer), who are both excellent drivers. My main goal is to win the championship, while learning and helping Lombardi achieve the best results possible”. Alex Healy will compete with the number 5 on his Civic Si.
Former open-wheel (F1600, Atlantic) driver Benjamin Distaulo also joins the Lombardi Honda Racing team after several successful seasons in the Toyota Cup and one learning season with his own Honda Civic in the Canadian Touring Class Championship. For the driver from Ville Lorraine, joining the Lombardi team is also a dream come true : “I am very proud to have been selected by Tony Lombardi to drive one of his cars. I feel honoured to be part of this legendary team” indicates Distaulo, “I’m sure that I will always have the best car. This is the biggest opportunity in my career – I am part of a top race team with a car that can win” adds the Quebec driver, whose Civic Si will don the number 6.
The 2010 Canadian Touring Car Championship season will start in May at Mosport in Ontario. The series will also return to several high profile Canadian motorsports events including the Toronto Honda Indy GP, The Grand-Prix de Trois-Rivières, and perhaps Montreal’s Grand Prix of Canada in June.

défendront les couleurs Lombardi en Touring Car canadien
Montréal, le 6 janvier 2010.- L’équipe Lombardi Honda Racing, victorieuse en 2009 du championnat canadien Touring Car, annonce aujourd’hui sa nouvelle formation de pilotes qui défendront ses couleurs tout au long de la saison 2010 aux commandes de Honda Civic Si Super Touring. Il s’agit du champion pilote en titre Nick Wittmer, auxquels se joignent deux nouveaux pilotes, soit l’Ontarien Alex Healy et le Québécois Benjamin Distaulo.
Championne canadienne l’an dernier en Touring Car, son premier titre dans ce type de série après de multiples titres dans les séries monotype Honda, l’équipe Lombardi Honda Racing entend mettre tous les atouts de son côté, la nomination de pilotes à la fois expérimentés et talentueux s’inscrit donc dans cette philosophie, comme l’explique Tony Lombardi, propriétaire de l’équipe : « Je suis très heureux de notre choix de pilotes 2010.Ils ont tous le potentiel pour gagner le titre et des courses » déclare t-il, « nous voulions trois pilotes qui vont se battre à chaque tour de piste pour faire triompher nos couleurs, c’est exactement ce que nous avons avec, dans l’ordre des numéros, Nick, Alex et Benjamin » ajoute t-il.
De son côté, le Montréalais Nick Wittmer entend bien tout faire pour conserver sa couronne, lui qui portera le numéro 1 sur sa Civic Si : « j’ai vraiment hâte que la saison débute pour défendre mon titre. J’ai confiance que nous aurons à nouveau du matériel très compétitif, nos Civic sont bâties avec des éléments mécaniques de série et respectent vraiment la philosophie des courses de Touring Car. Gagner des courses et décrocher un nouveau titre seront mes objectifs » explique Nick.
Autre pilote de grand talent, le jeune Alex Healy, d’Ottawa, rejoint l’équipe pour la saison 2010. Multiple champion de karting, Alex a récolté 3 podiums en 5 départs lors de ses débuts en Touring Car en 2008. L’an dernier, il a obtenu le titre de recrue de l’année, récoltant pas moins de dix "Top 10" en seize courses disputées. Alex Healy, 20 ans, est sans nul doute l’un des plus prometteurs pilotes canadiens. Il avoue son enthousiasme à rejoindre l’équipe Lombardi Honda Racing : « Je suis extrêmement content de faire partie de l'équipe Lombardi, c'est un rêve qui se réalise. Toute l'équipe est fantastique, ils m'ont beaucoup aidé l'an dernier avec des conseils, des pièces, même si j'étais un adversaire » explique Alex. Il ajoute : « J'ai vraiment hâte de rouler avec Ben (Distaulo) et Nick (Wittmer), qui sont de vrais grands pilotes. Mon objectif premier est de remporter le championnat, tout en apprenant et en aidant l’équipe Lombardi à récolter les meilleurs résultats possibles ». Alex Healy portera le numéro 5 sur sa Civic Si.
Ancien pilote de monoplace (F1600, Atlantique), Benjamin Distaulo rejoint lui aussi l’équipe Lombardi Honda Racing après plusieurs saisons à succès en Coupe Toyota et une saison d’apprentissage avec sa propre Honda Civic dans la classe Touring du championnat canadien. Pour le pilote de Ville Lorraine, rejoindre l’équipe championne est un rêve qui se réalise : « Je suis très fier d'avoir été choisi par Tony Lombardi pour piloter une de ses voitures. Je me sens honoré de faire partie de cette équipe de légende » indique Distaulo, « je suis certain que j'aurai toujours la meilleure voiture possible avec Lombardi. C'est la plus belle chance de ma carrière, je suis dans une véritable équipe de course, avec une voiture pour gagner » ajoute le pilote québécois qui portera le numéro 6 sur sa Civic Si.
Le championnat canadien Touring Car débutera sa saison 2010 en mai prochain, sur le circuit de Mosport en Ontario. La série sera aussi de retour à plusieurs grands rendez-vous du sport automobile canadien, tel le Honda Indy GP de Toronto, le Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières et peut-être le GP du Canada, en juin à Montréal.
