JL Racing Scores Top Ten Finishes at ICAR
JL Racing successfully completed the 2009 Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship this past weekend with a pair of top ten finishes with its Hype Energy Saab 93 in the Grand Final at Mirabel Quebec’s Circuit ICAR.
The weekend was held under fantastic weather and at Canada’s newest and unique road racing facilities at Circuit ICAR. The 3 kilometer track which is situated at the Mirabel airport just north of Montreal presented drivers with unique challenges given the nature of the twisty yet fast track layout. The facility is a beautiful one that both drivers and fans enjoyed throughout the weekend.
Driver P.J. Groenke gave a hint of things to come in his quest to crack the top ten with some very quick times during Fridays test sessions. JL Racings crew had to work hard leading up to the weekend to get the Hype Saab 93 ready after the damage from the previous race at GP3R. Both the crew and Groenke were relieved to see the car fast right out of the trailer and with changes made during Fridays testing, all were excited about the prospects for Saturdays 40 minute race.
Saturday afternoon was a beautiful day and the fans were treated to some of the best racing of the year with tight competition including many passes for position. Groenke’s qualifying time had him starting in 12th for the 40 minute race. Groenke produced one of the best starts from any racer this year and was able to make up 2 positions to 10th place were he held steady to the end of the race.
Groenke again had a great race on Sunday and was able to maintain his 10th place starting spot to come home in a well deserved 10th place. Again the race was an exciting affair with drivers keeping the action very close but not getting into any trouble treating the fans to some great touring car action.
The CCTCC held it’s year end awards banquet after Sunday’s race and JL Racing would like to congratulate Super Touring Class winner Nick Wittmer and Lombardi Racing and Touring Class winner Alain Lauziere for their well deserved championship. JL Racing also would like to congratulate John Bondar and his team at the CCTCC for a great year and look forward to another successful year during 2010.
